General Description
They are called Bottlenose Dolphins because of their beaks are shaped like a bottle. They are a gray to a dark gray on their backs, and a fading gray almost white on their bellies and by their lower jaw. Males are usually bigger than a female, they grow up to 8 to 12 ½ feet long and weigh about 1100 pounds. The female grow up to be 7 ½ to 12 feet long and weigh about 570 pounds. You may think that they are just fish but really they are a mammal because they can breath air. Their bodies are shaped like a 'torpedo' so they can glide through the water easier. Also their noses are located at the top of their head known as the 'blowhole' because it helps them inhale and exhale without having to go to the surface of the water.
Habitat
Bottlenose Dolphins are usually found in temperate and tropic waters, and the surface of the water is about 10º and 32º C. These Dolphins live from open water to coastal waters. Their are two types of Bottlenose Dolphins, known as coastal and offshore. The coastal Dolphins are found more towards the heat and shallow waters, where the bays, lagoons, and harbors are. The offshore Dolphins are found more in the colder and deeper waters.
